Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar is a Brit-American sitarist as well as a music producer. She was also the youngest and first woman to receive the British House of Commons Award. Anoushka Shankar is a rising young star of the Indian sitar. She is Ravi Shankar's student and is also his daughter of Ravi Shankar. She was born in 1982 in London. The first few years of her life included a period of time between London and New Delhi. At New Delhi, she made her debut when she was only thirteen years old. Then she moved in Encinitas CA, where she obtained her High School diploma with honors in 1999. Her career as a musician and performer is remarkable, even at her youth. Her father has been with her on numerous occasions for several years. She released her debut album in 1998. debuted Anourag as her debut solo record. The Grammy Award-winning Live at Carnegie Hall was released two years following her debut solo album. Stage performance is a large part of her career. She has performed in a variety of important venues across the globe. Anoushka Shankar's career is not restricted to just music. Bapi the The Love of My Live, a biographical picture dedicated to her father Ravi Shankar was published in 2002. She has also acted in movies in 2003. She played the role in the film Dance Like a Man where she plays a young Bharat Natyam performer. Anoushka Shankar is currently a rising star and her career will keep on growing. Anoushka Shankar was born and raised in England and spent much of her early years in London and Delhi after which she moved to California where she attended high school. Anoushka started her music studies when she was nine. After four years she played her first appearance on the sitar in Delhi for her father's 70th birthday party. Anoushka performed with her father during his world tour, gained an impressive amount of experience. When she was in her teens, she appeared at Carnegie Hall as part of Peter Gabriel's WOMAD and recorded alongside George Harrison. The youngest female to win the House of Commons Shield, given by the British Parliament as recognition of her talent and musicianship in music and the Asian Arts.
