Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet area within The West Island of Montreal is what you might call a "sleepy" area. For those who don't know, the West Island tend to think it's a isolated island to the west of Montreal however, it's a part of the city that's west. West Island is home to all things from Lachine west to the city of Lachine west. Many times, it is credited as the birthplace of Amanda Brugel but while that is the case, her stay there was short. Brugel was born in Courtice close to Oshawa Ontario. Initial plans were to be the best performer in the world, however, she literally outgrew the dancers. In an article in the Toronto Star she admitted In heels I'm 6'1 inch. Once I had outgrown my male partners, I quit. For Brugel, it was the encouragement of the drama instructor at her high school that inspired her to start acting. The teacher who suggested she pursue a role for the school's annual production. She tried out and was eventually cast as the character of Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program which she graduated with the Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in 2000. Since then, Brugel has been in 60+ productions both in smaller and big ones. She received the greatest recognition when she landed her character of Rita for the show that won awards. TV show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the only Canadian actor during Season 1 of the show and was she was only seen on occasion.
